Hypoxic Training:
Altitude Training with a Generator

Book a local Hypoxic training service through Injury Mechanics to reach your goals alongside a specialised team using state-of-the-art equipment.

Hypoxic training mimics exposure to lower oxygen levels, which can be beneficial for increasing aerobic capacity, endurance and enhancing your body’s capabilities. These services are suitable both for conditioning the body for performance at high altitudes, or for boosting performance at lower altitudes.

Equally, hypoxic training has therapeutic benefits for conditions such as anemia and coronary heart disease, and can also help with post-operative or injury rehabilitation

Our altitude training with a generator service is based on your needs and goals, and we’ll help you improve your athletic capabilities gradually and consistently.

Hypoxic training services

Our Hypoxic training services have the ability to take your athleticism to the next level. Our goal and evidence-driven approach to all forms of training are designed and suitable for athletes of all levels, and your goals are personal to you and only you.

For example, your aim might simply be to recover from a recent surgery, as these services can help prevent postoperative complications. Equally, you might be preparing for an ultra-marathon, and looking to improve your respiratory capacity.

Either way, the approach of all of the Injury Mechanics services is to help you reach your personal goals using an evidence-based approach which is comfortable and effective for you.

Altitude training with a generator

Our state of the art Altitude Generator is designed for athletes, climbers and performance-driven individuals seeking to enhance their endurance and acclimatisation through altitude training.

Our generator is the very same used by elite level sports teams such as the British & Irish Lions and UCI Cycling teams, proving its effectiveness even at the highest level.

With an altitude range of 2,700m to 6,000m above sea level, our altitude training supports a variety of applications.

What altitude training consists of

Our next level altitude training consists of 4 main protocols:

  • Required Benchmark Performance - We’ll start with a required 20-minute FTP (Functional Threshold Power) test on our WattBike Atom V2 with one of our clinicians. This provides us with a baseline to which we can accurately control the Oxygen Saturation throughout your Altitude Training block based on your effort, heart rate and wattage throughout the programme. This allows us to create an individual programme based on your individual statistics.
  • Interval training - Interval sessions are tailored to you and your goals. We adapt the length, duration and rest periods accordingly to each athlete. As the weeks of your programme progress the intensity will remain a constant whilst the targeted SpO2 (Oxygen Saturation) decreases.
  • Recovery sessions - Hypoxic training during recovery periods allows you to reduce your mechanical load (through your muscles, ligaments and joints) whilst maintaining the metabolic load (energy to complete a task). ‘Easy’ recovery rides or runs are a great way to utilise our altitude training. These are conducted at lower physical intensities to reduce the risk of overtraining.
  • Injury rehabilitation - We will utilise the use of altitude training whilst recovering from injury. At certain points of the rehabilitation process of injuries (such as fractures, bone stress injuries or post surgery) altitude training is a great way to initiate load throughout the joint and surrounding structures at a much lower mechanical stress level whilst beginning to increase metabolic performance.

Our next level altitude training, based in Bolton, involves 4 main procedures:
